Heat feeling good as Chalmers, Battier get healthy
MIAMI – Mario Chalmers and Shane Battier are feeling good because the Miami Heat are winning.
Then again the fact that the Heat are winning has plenty to do with Mario Chalmers and Shane Battier feeling good.
With both players having regained their stride amid this five-game winning streak, each has pointed to improved health.
Prior to these consecutive victories over the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers, when he has shot a combined 11 of 20, Chalmers had shot 6 of 22 in his previous four games, with two or fewer baskets in six of his previous seven appearances.
The difference now is the Heat’s starting point guard is back to playing with 10 fingers, finally without the splint he had worn on his left ring finger since partially tearing a tendon in early December.
“I don’t have to wear the big splint on my finger no more,” he said, allowed to discard it after Wednesday’s victory over the Houston Rockets.
“I’m not trying to make excuses or anything. So that feels good.”
Even though the injury was on his non-shooting hand, he said playing unencumbered makes a difference.
