Miami Heat will not offer Josh Harrellson another 10-day contract
The Miami Heat will not re-sign big man Josh Harrellson, giving the Kentucky product an opportunity to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
The Miami Heat will not re-sign center Josh Harrellson to another 10-day contract, Joseph Goodman of the Miami Herald reports.
The move trims Miami’s roster size to 13 players, though the status of guard Jarvis Varnado is unclear after he signed a 10-day contract on Jan. 9.
According to Goodman, Harrellson is already exploring other options for more playing time, which presumably means an NBA team with less talent on the front line than Miami.
The Kentucky product played just 31 minutes for the Heat this season, failing to earn legitimate playing time for one of the league’s best teams.
Drafted by the New Orleans Hornets in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft after three years with the Wildcats, Harrellson never played there before being dealt to the New York Knicks.
He played 37 games in New York before a short stint with the Houston Rockets, where he was waived before ever playing a game. He then signed with Miami last September.
If the Heat need more depth up front, Dexter Pittman could be recalled from the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He was assigned there on Friday.
